There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den betting is not legal. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most borders.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling den, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel building that features numerous conveniences aside from the casino, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
