Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is banned. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge casino, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that features numerous luxuries aside from the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
